There are important changes such as the addition of mechanical keys which is an improvement over older models. Given all the features present, the G710+ is an excellent keyboard suitable for all-purpose gaming.
The Logitech G710+ mechanical gaming keyboard is a popular addition to the Logitech G-series family with good performance and a decent price tag. This feature is important for visibility as it allows for independent brightness control of arrow and WASD keys.
However, the G710+ also features something new, the inclusion of adjustable dual-zone lighting. Unfortunately, it is sad to see that the backlit keys only support white LED light instead of multicolor RGB featured in older models. All keys are backlit and support four brightness levels to suit preference. The macro keys are located on the side with an orange outline while arrow and WASD keys are highlighted in gray.
These features are hardwired into the keyboard itself meaning that external software is not required.Īesthetically, the G710+ is best described as being simple and straightforward. However, with on the go macro recording, simple macro creation can be accomplished with only a few keypresses and occur at any time, even during a game. Traditionally, programming macros require software, syntax, and time. This feature allows for dynamic macro creation and editing in real time, something rarely seen in other gaming keyboards on the market.
The G710+ also retains the on the go macro recording function seen in the previous G510 and G110 models. These keys often went unused and added clutter to the overall design. The older G510 keyboard, on the other hand, incorporated an excessive 18 individual keys which tripled to 54 programmable functions through macro profiles. Specifically, these macro profiles, accessible via three physical keys, triple the macros to 18 individual functions and provide more than enough room for commands to be executed in most games. While some may find the reduction to six macro keys debatable, the three onboard macro profiles allow for plenty of versatile programmability. As with most high-end gaming keyboards, the G710+ features programmable macro keys that can be configured to perform simple keypresses or even complex scripts. Mechanical keys aside, it is not surprising to see that the macro profile and macro recording keys have not been removed in the G710+. The G710+ also supports anti-ghosting keys and key-rollover to facilitate intense gameplay from simultaneous multi-key input. These features make the G710+ an attractive choice for those desiring a tactile and responsive keyboard at a fraction of the noise. Each key features a built-in dampening ring underneath in order to eliminate excess noise from key presses without sacrificing performance and feel. Many people often find that these switches blend the natural feel of blue switches and the quiet sound of red switches together. However, the G710+ rectifies this oversight through the incorporation of Cherry MX Brown Switches. With so many gaming keyboards featuring mechanical keys, it is no wonder that one of the significant shortcomings and complaints on older Logitech G-series keyboards are about the lack of mechanical keys. However, important features such as the built-in macro profiles and on the go macro recording are retained. The layout has also seen some small changes, namely, a reduction in the number of macro keys. Older G510 and G110 models incorporated depressed keys which were often hard to press. In particular, the G710+ features a more streamlined design with pronounced media access and macro profile keys. These modifications such as the addition of mechanical keys and a modified interface offer improvements over previous generation models. Reminiscent of older Logitech gaming keyboards such as the G510 and G110, the G710+ includes certain changes in design and functionality. The Logitech G710+ is a well-rounded mechanical keyboard with solid performance in various types of games.
